February 26, 2015

It's a Thursday. Snowing heavily. 1/12th of the year is gone since my birthday. The dreary month of February is almost done. Ticket to Firefly acquired for another year. And I have new music to listen to. The Airborne Toxic Event dropped a surprise acoustic album along with their latest release. I'll be listening through "Songs of God and Whisky" for the first time. It has the potential to be a good day. We'll see.

Poor Isaac - The Airborne Toxic Event
A Certain Type of Girl - The Airborne Toxic Event
Change and Change and Change and Change - The Airborne Toxic Event
April is the Cruelest Month - The Airborne Toxic Event
The Lines of the Cars - The Airborne Toxic Event
Strangers - The Airborne Toxic Event
Why Why Why - The Airborne Toxic Event
The Fall of Rome - The Airborne Toxic Event

February 4, 2015

Pressure mounting at the office. Trying to drown myself in the familiar melancholy of sad music. A pretty dismal winter, up until my Birthday in late January. Up until then, the normal struggle with rejection was winning pretty handily. Since then a handful of things, elucidated elsewhere, although probably never published, surprisingly point toward what is at least healthy if not strong relationship. I've been thinking through the dichotomy of little things such as I crave actually occurring, but still feeling like any happiness is sure to crumble, and that whatever happiness I try to experience is unearned and short lived. Ah well. Much to deep for me. But it slightly informs this sad strain of music and how that feels comfortable to me.

Also on pins and needles for the Firefly lineup to come out. Could be today, could be any day really. Really hoping for St Vincent, Metric, and of course Arcade Fire.

Always Gold - Radical Face
How To Fight Loneliness - Wilco
Learning - The National
Broadripple is Burning - Margot and the Nuclear So and So's
Love Vigilantes - Iron and Wine
Crown of Love - Arcade Fire
Michicant - Bon Iver
Gentle Hour - Yo Lo Tengo
Darkmatter - Andrew Bird
Shelter - The XX

January 23, 2015

Tough weekend. Only tough days loom ahead. Sad and Reflective mood.
Coming weekend looms tiring, but strangely enough, I'm ready for it. Sometimes the chance to get some things off my chest help me feel better about life in general. Mix of songs is strange, and reflects a bit the complication of not knowing for sure how I feel or fit in to certain situations.

Love Takes A Wrecking Ball - A Silent Film
Heartbeat - The Kopecky Family Band
Work It Out - Knox Hamilton
Goshen '97 - Strand of Oaks
Say My Name - ODESZA
Boys Can Never Tell - J. Roddy Walston and The Business
Seventeen - Lake Street Dive
Sugar - FIVE KNIVES

More to come. Especially with the Firefly lineup not that far away.

January 15, 2015

A bit of furor over the release and impending release of Music Festival lineups. Confession: I quite enjoy that kind of furor. Looking forward to the lineup that Firefly will put out. Still hasn't been released but the rumours point to Pail McCartney, The Killers, and Kings of Leon as headliners. Not a bad first line. Here's hoping that many more quality artists fill it in, and I would still love it if they managed to work Arcade Fire into the mix somehow. Oh well, we'll see.

Enjoying a few Noisetrade albums, some artists I heard last year at firefly. Here is some things I've found myself listening to...

Only - Shakey Graves
Parasites - San Fermin
My Place - Young Buffalo
Hold - Austin Manuel
Stare at the Sun - Death By Unga Bunga
Sweet Tooth - My Goodness
Raindrops - IAMEVE
I'm Not Ready - Chappo
Where Scars Don't Show - Cold Mailman
No Joke - Boxed In
We Are Undone - Two Gallants
Common Mistake - The Bad Years
The Man I Was Before - Christian Lopez  Band
Next Time - Satellite Sky
Money and Shiny Things - The Damnwells

... More to come...
